Candlewicking Basics

Sunday November 4, 2007
Colonial knotsCandlewicking is a traditional form of embroidery based on the colonial knot. As with Cross Stitch designs, other embroidery stitches may be added to Candlewicking as well.

If you seek a traditional look, Candlewicking basics include muslin, ecru floss, a sharp needle with a large eye, a hoop, and a washable marker. For a modern take on this traditional craft, choose any color floss, experiment with fabrics, and add free hand cross stitch and other stitches as embellishment. Free Candlewicking patterns are provided to get you started.
