How Often Do You Stitch With Silk Floss?

"I was wondering if anyone can tell me about possible advantages of stitching with silk. The cost is so much more which is why I haven't tried to use it very much. But I'm going to start a sampler for my in-law's 45th wedding anniversary and am wondering if it's better. Does it last longer or is it mostly just a preference on how it feels to work with?"
