What Fabric Count Do You Prefer? Latest Cross Stitch Poll

Monday February 25, 2008
I know some stitchers tend to choose a fabric count they like and stick with it. I am pretty flexible. One of my favorite projects was stitched over one on 28-count linen, but I definitely had to rely on my magnifier for help with that one. I used to stitch mainly on 18-count Aida, but now that I am getting older, I prefer 14-count Aida because I find it easier to see. I use 11-count Aida for some projects, but I don't really like the look of the fabric. The squares are just a bit too evident for me. Sometimes, however, that look works for a project.

While I love the look of linen, my eyes aren’t what they used to be. Even using 2 over 2 is hard for me. 14 count ususally makes a nice picture, but even that is getting too small and I may have to switch to 11 count. If I do, should I use 3 strands?

I use three strands on 11-count. To me, two strands does not provide the coverage I desire.

I voted for depends on the project, which is usually the case, however when I can, or when I’m doing my own design, I like the 28 count or linen because I love to put in lots of detail. Especialy when I’m doing a portrait scanned into my computer cross stitch program. I don’t know how long I’ll be able to do this though, I’m up to a 4x magnifier now.

I agree with the 11CT aida, it is easy to me.
