Social Networking for Stitchers
Thursday November 20, 2008
I have become a social networking addict. I participate in Twitter, Facebook, and many of the Forums here at About.com including, of course, the Cross Stitch forum. I also have pages on MySpace and LinkedIn to boot, but I don't spend as much time there. I try to limit myself to networking after my work for the day is done, but I do check in on Twitter throughout the day - otherwise it would take a long time to catch up on the people I follow.
The reason I like participating in these sites is that I work from home in a rural area. I don't get out much because I take care of an elderly gentleman. So, visiting my friends and making new friends in a virtual world keeps me from feeling too isolated. I love living in the country, but I also like knowing that there's an entire world out there and feeling like I am a part of it.
Recently I discovered three new social networking sites that are craft-related. Crafty Nation, Craft Bubble, and Bead Space offer many of the same features as other social networking sites, but the focus is on crafts. If you enjoy discussing your craft with others with a similar interest, then you will want to check them out. I am a member of the first two, but not the last. To find out more about it, read Beading Guide Paula S. Morgan's Bead Space Profile.
