I usually don't mention specific needlework catalogs or Cross Stitch magazines here unless I am reviewing the latter. I don't want to play favorites on the magazines and I can no longer afford to subscribe to many of them. I wish I could get them all because there are some great ones out there!
I mention catalogs because I was blown away by the latest Herrshners Needlework Shoppe catalog. It has always been a favorite of mine, but the latest catalog has stash temptation on almost every page! Since I don't have a local needlework shop, I browse a lot online and in catalogs. I like shopping online, but I also love to hold a catalog in my hands and flip through it once quickly and slowly, savoring the project, the second time.
Herrshners features some lovely projects, great tools, and a wide range of embroidery styles. Needlepoint and Cross Stitch are dominant but there are also Crewel, Beading, Stamped Cross Stitch, Hardanger, and Long Stitch projects. Projects from Hummel, Thea Gouvernour, and Lanarte grace the pages.
Want to see what I mean? Visit Herrshners online or request a catalog. You can also sign up for email alerts so you will be first to know about sales and specials.
Another item I wanted to point out - Barnes and Noble is offering a nice Cross Stitch boxed set called Miss Wooly's Mini Cross Stitch (compare prices). It will make a great gift for a friend or older child who is interested in learning to stitch. I planned to review it for About.com Cross Stitch, but then I read Denise Felton's review at Craft Gossip and thought she summed it up quite well.
So pop over to Needlework at Craft Gossip for a look. And don't stop there - be sure to check out her latest posts. She finds the neatest things! And I am not just saying that because she links here from time-to-time. It is one of my must read blogs each week.

Wow! Thanks a million for the shout-out, Connie! Knowing that THE Connie G. Barwick reads my blog makes me feel like Miss America! And a million more thanks for the fantastic resource you provide to needleworkers. Your blog is definitely the cross-stitch go-to!
Denise
I’ve enjoyed Herrschner’s for years. It’s a dream book like people used to do with their sears catalog. I must say that Herrschner’s has more to offer online. Not just looking at their “Hot Sales” but their online catalog goes on and on. Even more temptation. They do offer everything from the quick and easy to the very complex patterns.
