One of my friends (she knows who she is) thought this design looked like an anatomy drawing of a brain. Being the science geek I am (science fiction geek at least), I loved that comparison.
The comparison may gross you out a little instead. Don't let that keep you from enjoying this design. It reminded me more of some plants my grandmother used to have called "pocketbook" plants because the blooms were shaped like - you guessed it - a pocketbook.
I figured this was just some name she made up for them, but after doing some research on About.com Landscaping, I learned from Guide David Beaulieu that the latin name for the plant is Calceolaria crenatiflora but the common name really is Pocketbook plant. They are annuals and popular with florists. Now I am going to try to find some seeds and grow my own!

Thanks for sharing the picture of the blossom. I also thought it was a brain but the saying about “remember me” refers to a brain activity so it’s still appropriate. I think if it was done up in color, that would help. Do you have any finished pictures of this one?
I never would have thought that if you hadn’t mentioned it.
Now that’s all I can see when I look at it. lol.
I can see the brain image as well now!
I love that the cross-stitch inspired you to garden and that the plant inspired the cross-stitch—there’s inspiration everywhere!!
