This is one of my favorite projects and for once I kept this one instead of giving it as a gift. I stitched the free Hardanger Steps and Stars pattern on 14-count parchment colored plastic canvas.

I was inspired to perk up a paper mache box with the design. Get the details in Decorate a Paper Mache Box. This project graces a chest in the entryway of my house.
Use this idea to create a great gift box that will live on even after the package is opened and the gift removed! You may choose to paint the box instead of leaving it natural as I did. Add more interest by using a glittery paint or stamps to add details to the sides of the box.
