The Open Chevron Stitch is a counted thread embroidery stitch sometimes used to embellish Cross Stitch patterns. It is simple to stitch and will make an interesting addition to a band sampler or a simple border around a small design.
Difficulty: Average
Time Required: varies

Here's How:

  1. Place the fabric in the hoop if desired.
  2. Thread the needle with a short length of floss.
  3. Use a waste knot
  4. Begin the Open Chevron Stitch by bringing up the needle at point 1 and carrying it up two and over one squares of Aida.
  5. Take the needle and floss down at point 2.
  6. Bring the needle up at point 3 and take it down at point 4. Take care to control the tension of your stitches.
  7. Bring the needle and floss up at point 5. This point is in the middle of the side of the Aida square.
  8. Take the needle and floss across to point 6. This point is also in the middle of a side of the Aida square.
  9. Continue the Open Chevron Stitch by bringing up the needle at point 7, in the middle of the Aida square side.
  10. Take the needle and floss down at point 8.
  11. Complete the stitch by securing both ends of the floss. Secure the end in the needle, then clip the waste knot and secure the other floss. You may also want continue practicing Open Chevron Stitches.
  12. Note: The only difference between a Closed Chevron stitch and and Open Chevron stitch is the length of the lower stitched. No space is left between them in a Closed Chevron Stitch.
