The Bottom Line

This is not a project for beginning stitchers, but for a stitcher with experience who wants to try out some larger projects, these designs would be a great place to start. Just take your time and use helpful techniques like gridding to assist you.
Pros
  • Large, Clear Pattern
  • Mainly Whole Cross Stitch
  • Clear Stitching Instructions
Cons
  • Chart is Black and White - Some Stitchers Prefer Color
  • Loads of "Confetti" Stitches

Description

  • Charts are large print, black-and-white and divided into four sections.
  • Designs are done in whole cross stitch with just a few back stitches to add a little detail.
  • The designs include wrapped back stitch, a back stitch variation that produces a cord-like stitch.
  • Some blended needle is used, but clear instructions about how to do this are provided.

Guide Review - Teresa Wentzler's Brilliant Plumage

Teresa Wentzler is know for large, unique projects. Brilliant Plumage is a set of Peacocks - and is actually one of her smaller designs. The designs are worked in whole cross stitch with just a little back stitch for detail. This does not mean that it is not packed with detail. These charts are not for beginning stitchers, but intermediate and advanced stitchers will find them challenging, but fun to stitch. I recommend using gridding to assist with stitching these designs.

These designs include one specialty stitch - whipped back stitch and some blended floss. This may be intimidating at first for new stitchers, but clear explanation is given in the stitching instructions on how to carry out these techniques.
