Though the title might lead you to believe that 500 small patterns are included, the patterns are not tiny motifs - many are rather large and complex. There are plenty of smaller designs too. The patterns are arranged by topic - nature, celebrations, children, and designs from around the world. Each of the patterns also includes an example of how to display the depicted design. In addition, over forty more pages give instructions for finishing completed designs as everything from a bag to a piped pillow to a book cover. Instructions for blocking and framing needlework are included.
