Add an interesting element to a design or border by learning how to stitch a couched long stitch.
Difficulty: Average
Time Required: Varies

Here's How:

  1. Stitch a long stitch (indicated by black line).
  2. Stitch a cross stitch over the long stitch.
  3. Continue practicing the couched long stitch.

Tips:

  1. Use contrasting or coordinating colors to stitch the long stitch and the overlaid cross stitch for a slightly different look. This stitch may be positioned horizontally or diagonally as well.
  2. This technique may also be used to couch ribbon or specialty fibers.
  3. The length of the long stitch may be altered as desired. Stitch the cross stitch over one or over two as shown here.
