The elongated cross stitch is a variation of the cross stitch that replaces two single cross stitches.
Difficulty: Average
Time Required: Varies

Here's How:

  1. Begin the elongated cross stitch by bringing the threaded needle up at 1. (You may want to use a waste knot to begin this stitch.)

  2. Complete the first leg of the elongated cross stitch by taking the threaded needle down at 2.

  3. The second leg of the elongated cross stitch begins by bringing the floss up at 3.

  4. Complete the elongated cross stitch by inserting the needle at point 4 and drawing the floss to the back of the fabric.

  5. Continue stitching elongated cross stitches until comfortable with the stitch. Secure the floss after you have completed the stitches. When stitching elongated cross stitches, it is best to complete each stitch as you go. This stitch replaces two cross stitches and may be substituted for the cross stitch in small designs or borders.
