A Quartered Cross Stitch is a variation on the cross stitch that is composed of quarter stitches if you are stitching over one thread on Linen or one square of Aida. If you are stitching over two threads on linen or over two squares of Aida, you will create the stitch using half stitches.
Difficulty: Average
Time Required: Varies
Here's How:
- Begin this stitch by bringing the threaded needle up at point 1. Stitch down into the center of the square. (You may want to use waste knot to start this stitch.)
- For the second leg of the stitch, bring the threaded needle up at point 2. Stitch into the center of the square. Secure the floss behind the stitches if you did not start the stitch with a waste knot.
- Next, bring the threaded needle up at point 3 and stitch into the center of the square.
- To complete a single Quartered Cross Stitch, bring the threaded up at point 4 and stitch into the center of the square. Secure the floss, or continue practicing the quartered cross stitch.
Tips:
- Use one size smaller needle than usual when you are stitching quartered cross stitches.
- Alternate between cross stitch and quartered cross stitch in a border or small design.
