An underlined cross stitch is a simple variation on the cross stitch. A horizontal bar is added at the bottom of a regular cross stitch.
Difficulty: Easy
Time Required: varies
Here's How:
- Begin the stitch with a waste knot. Start the stitch by bringing up the threaded tapestry needle at 1.
- Carry the floss across the Aida square and take the needle down at 2.
- Bring the needle up at 3.
- Carry the floss across the square and take it down at 4 to complete a cross stitch.
- Bring the needle up again at point 3.
- Carry the floss down at point 1 to complete the underlined cross stitch. Secure the floss to end the stitch or bring the floss back up at point 3 to continue practicing the underlined cross stitch.
- Use the underlined cross stitch to create a border around a small motif or to replace some or all the cross stitch in a small design.
