Learn to Stitch a Rice Stitch - Cross Stitch Variation

When stitched with a single color of floss, a rice stitch looks like four small cross stitch, but creates a slightly different texture. Due to the direction of the stitches, the strands catch the light in a different manner. The rice stitch may also be stitched with two colors for another variation.

To learn to stitch a Rice Stitch you will need the following supplies:

• a pair of sharp scissors
• a small embroidery hoop
• a piece of Aida fabric large enough to overlap the hoop by a few inches
• one-two short lengths of embroidery floss
• a size 24 tapestry needle
