The woven circle stitch is used in Chicken Scratch Embroidery, but it may also be adapted for Cross Stitch patterns.
Difficulty: Average
Time Required: Varies

Here's How:

  1. Begin the stitch with a waste knot. Bring the threaded needle up at 1 and take it down into the center area of square as indicated by the diagram.

  2. Bring the threaded needle up at 2 and take it down into the center of the square.

  3. Bring the needle up at 3 and insert it as indicated on the diagram.

  4. Continue stitching as before by bringing the needle up at 4 and taking it down into the center area. This completes the first half of the woven circle stitch.

  5. To create the ring, bring the floss up from behind the lower bar of the stitch as indicated by the green dot. Run the floss behind the other bars. Keep the floss on top of the fabric. Do not pull the floss too tight. Adjust the floss as needed with your needle to create a circle.

  6. Insert the floss back at the starting point. Continue practicing woven circle stitches or run the floss under the backs of the stitches to secure it.

  7. If you started with a waste knot, clip it and secure the floss.

Tips:

  1. Do not pull the floss too tightly or the circle will be malformed.
