Definition:

Embroidery hoops are used to hold fabric at an even tension while stitching.

Embroidery hoops hold fabric between two rings. The fabric should be removed from the embroidery hoop when not in use to avoid damage to fabric.

Some stitchers hold fabric taunt "in the hand" instead of using an embroidery hoop or needlework frame.
