Definition: Cross Stitch is a style of embroidery which avoids knots when stitching, except when French Knots are used for decoration. Floss is secured by stitching over the end of the floss when starting out or by running the needle under the backs of stitches when finishing. A waste knot is sometimes used when beginning stitches, but as the term implies, is clipped off when enough stitches are present for securing the floss.
