Definition: Waste Canvas is a grid woven of fibers which is basted onto fabric and used as a guide for placement of individual cross stitches. When all of the cross stitches in a design are complete, the fibers of the waste canvas grid are moistened and removed by gently pulling them out from under the stitches.

For more information about Waste Canvas, including tips for use, see this Profile of Waste Canvas. Also known as disappearing canvas.
