To learn to stitch a tent stitch you will need: Begin the tent stitches with a waste knot or secure the floss as you stitch. Thread the tapestry needle with one or two strands of floss. If using a hoop, place the fabric in the hoop.

To stitch tent stitches, follow the diagram above:
  1. Bring the threaded needle up at 1 and take it back down at 2.
  2. For the second stitch, bring the threaded needle up at 3 and take it back down at 4.
  3. Continue stitching right to left as you complete the third stitch by bringing the needle up at 5 and taking it down at 6.
  4. Bring the needle up at 7 and down at 8 to complete the next stitch.
  5. Complete the row of tent stitches by bringing the needle up at 9 and taking it down at 10. Continue practicing or secure the floss to complete the row.
