Cross Stitch patterns usually provide a lot of information. For a new stitcher, this information may be confusing until he or she learns to interpret it.

What do numbers on a chart like 140w by 63h mean?
A. These numbers are the dimensions of the design in stitches. In the example above, the finished project will be 140 stitches wide by 63 stitches high. The size of the finished project will depend on the thread or stitch count of the fabric. For Aida fabric, unless otherwise noted, the design will be stitched over one square. Linen is typically stitched over two threads. The easiest way to determine the stitch count for linen is to divide the thread count by two.

To determine the size fabric needed for a project, use the finished design size calculator. The calculator will determine the amount of fabric required for the design only. Don't forget to allow a few inches of fabric on each side for finishing or framing your project.
