Needlepoint and Cross Stitch have a great deal in common including stitches, fabric surfaces, and tools.
What is Needlepoint?
Needlepoint is a type of canvas work made with yarn or thread being stitched by hand, into canvas mesh to form a design or pattern. The types of stitching, threads and canvas used for needlepoint, make it useful and more durable than many other needlecrafts.

Tent Stitch Family
Tent stitch refers to a family of needlepoint stitches worked diagonally over one intersection of canvas mesh. Tent stitch can be used to work the main design, or the background areas of the canvas. There are several stitches in this family including the Continental Stitch, basketweave stitch, and Half Cross Stitch.
Basic Satin Stitch
The Satin Stitch is worked by stitch across multiple threads on a needlepoint canvas, creating a large, smooth, satiny area - hence its name. Satin Stitch can be used anywhere on a needlepoint needlepoint canvas to make an element stand out, or to highlight desired areas in a project.
