Step One: Gather Supplies
To make a needle organizer you will need:
- small photo album
- sheets of felt
- small labels
- permanent marker
- scissors
Step Two: Cut Felt Sheets
Cut pieces of felt slightly smaller than the photo size the album was designed to hold. For example, if the photo album is designed for 4" by 6" photos, cut the felt 3 3/4" by 5 3/4". You will need a piece of felt for each type or size of needle you plan to place in the organizer.
Step Three: Label Felt Sheets
Place labels on each piece of felt. Write the needle size and type (if desired) on each label. Use a permanent marker to ensure the labels will be legible after long-term use of the needle organizer.
In my needle collection, I have pages for each of the following:
- Size 18-28 Tapestry Needles (one page for each size)
- Double Eye Needles
- Curved Tapestry Needles
- Chenille Needles
- Milliners Needles
- Crewel Needles
- Darners
- Beading Needles
- Plastic Needles
Gently insert needles in the labeled felt pieces. Depending on the thickness of the felt, the needles may not even show from the back.
Step Five: Load Felt Sheets
Carefully load the pieces of felt into your organizer. Do not allow the needles to catch on the edges of the album pages. (See second image.)
Step Six: Enjoy Organization
Enjoy having all your needles securely located in one place. No more needle packets falling apart, no more wondering what size mystery needles are, and best of all, no more clutter.
