When you are choosing a photo from which to create a pattern, consider the following:
  • The larger the subject, the larger the chart will need to be to enable crisp details.
  • The subject of the pattern should be featured prominently.
  • If you are charting the pattern by hand, the fewer details in the subject, the better.
  • If you are charting the pattern with a computer program, the clearer the photo is the better.
  • It may be easier to use a photo to pattern service than to create the pattern by hand or on your own.
In this case, I selected a photo of Delila Gerbil and cropped it so that she is featured prominently. The photo was provided by Shereen Jegtvig, About.com Guide to Nutrition. Delila passed over the Rainbow Bridge a few months after this photo was taken.
