Guide Review - A-Z of Thread Painting
The first fourth of the book is dedicated to general information about embroidery and stitches and techniques. The general information is rather lacking in photos and illustrations, but the stitch tutorials include many photos and are the clearest and easiest to follow that I have seen in a long time. Stitch variations are discussed and explained as well.
Stitch tutorials are grouped into outlining and filling stitches. Outlining stitches include back stitch split back stitch, split stitch, stem stitch, and outline stitch. Filling stitches are the blanket stitch, long and short stitch, and satin stitch.
The patterns in the book fall into two themes - animals and birds and flowers and fruit. Among the animal and bird motifs are a baby wren, spaniels, albatross, emus, Siamese cat, eagle, owls, elephants, wolf, and starfish. Fruit designs include anemones, apples, lily, summer flowers, fuchsia, roses, dahlia, pear, lavender, tulip, and more.
There are so many lovely designs in A-Z of Thread Painting that I am hard-pressed to select favorites. I really like the Siamese Cat design, but then again I am rather biased towards that breed. The cute elephant that is blowing bubbles is also a fun design. I also especially like the anemones.
