Type of Floss:

Hand-dyed Wildflowers by Caron is cotton and is provided in single-strand skeins that are 36 yards (33 meters).

Range of Colors :

Several hundred variegated and solid colors are available. Because the threads are hand-dyed, differences in color lots are to be expected, so order plenty of floss for your project. For a complete listing of available colors, visit the Caron Collection website.

Characteristics of Wildflowers Floss:

The floss is cotton, single-stranded and has a subtle appearance. The finish of the floss is matte. The thread is evenly spun with a consistent texture. The dyes used are color-fast, but darker colors and reds should be tested for bleeding.

Tips for Usage:

For Cross Stitch, use one strand over two threads on 24 to 32-count fabrics. Use one strand over one thread on 18-14 count fabrics. If you choose to use this on Aida fabric, use petite cross stitches.

Use Wildflowers for open work fillings in Hardanger.

It may be best to stitch a test swatch of stitches on the fabric you choose to ensure you achieve the look you want.

My First Experience with Wildflowers:

The first time I stitched with Caron Wildflowers floss, I was amazed at how strong it was. It even stood up to frogging and I reused several strands after I picked them out. I tried using longer strands than usual to test for fraying and there was little. I did break one strand, but it was because the eye of the needle I was using was very rough, and not a flaw in the floss.

The floss had a nice texture. I adore the softness of silks, but sometimes it is nice to work with a thread that is more substantial.
