Composition

DMC Light Effects Floss is 100% polyester.

Number of Colors

The original DMC Light Effects color palette has been expanded from eleven to 36 solid and variegated skeins.

Characteristics

DMC Light Effects Floss is numbered according to the same numbering system as DMC 100% cotton embroidery floss. Most Light Effects colors have a corresponding color of cotton floss. (Notable exceptions include the florescent colors.)
DMC Light Effects Floss may be washed in warm water, but should not be tumble dried. You may iron the floss on a low setting. Dry cleaning is possible too, however DMC warns that any solvent may be used except trichloroethylene.

Tips for Stitching with DMC Light Effects Floss

Add a subtle sparkle with the Antique tones or a lot of sparkle with the Jewel tones.
It is important to realize that stitching with DMC Light Effects will be a little different than stitching with cotton floss. Use shorter lengths of floss - no more than 12 inches.
Stitch more slowly than you would with cotton floss.
Loop your thread onto the needle.
Use a slightly larger needle than you would with cotton floss.

Tips for Blending DMC Light Effect Floss

DMC Light Effects is sturdy enough to use without additional floss, but since the color numbering system makes it easy to find a cotton floss that corresponds to DMC Light Effects Floss, you may want to combine the cotton and polyester flosses for a more subtle sparkle. When blending DMC Light Effects with cotton floss, dampening the floss will help keep the flosses together as you stitch.

Stitching Level Required

Intermediate to Advanced Stitchers will find that DMC Light Effect Floss is more durable than most blending filaments and metallic thread. This is a good transition floss for newer stitchers interested in moving beyond the basic cotton flosses. All stitchers should follow the tips about working with this floss to avoid frustrations.
