For my project, I chose to use FurTaStitch floss. The tips described here would work with other textured flosses such as Rainbow Gallery Wisper Floss. Before stitching with any textured floss, read the manufacturers care instructions.
FurTaStitch is 100% nylon, hand-washable, but must not be ironed. Those characteristics are important to note before stitching with the floss.
