To stitch a half Rhodes stitch, you will need:

To begin the half Rhodes stitch, cut a short length of six-strand embroidery floss and separate the strands of floss. Thread the tapestry needle with two strands of the floss.

Start the stitch with a waste knot. Bring the threaded needle up at point 1 and down at point 2 as indicated by the red line in the diagram. (Although each line in this tutorial is a different color, the entire vertical Half Rhodes stitch will be done in the same color.)
