When it comes to floss storage, there are many options available for stitchers including floss bobbins, craft boxes, and, the type featured in this article, plastic bag storage systems. You can make your own floss storage system, or purchase prepared bags.

When considering the purchase of bag storage systems, you should consider the type and amount of floss which will be stored in the bags. For example, I use bobbins and craft boxes to store my DMC floss collection, but I use a bag-based storage system for DMC Light Effects floss and DFN floss. Since the Light Effects floss is polyester, it can be safely stored in plastic long-term. My DFN floss collection is quite small and fits nicely into the bag storage system. Since I use this floss up quickly, it will not be damaged by storage in the plastic bags.

Features of Bag Storage Systems include:
  • Ability to add additional bags as floss collection grows
  • Bags may be placed on rings for assistance with organization
  • Most storage systems have a label spot in which to write the floss color name or number
  • Skeinsof floss may be placed directly in the bag with no further handling required.
