For this project you will need:
  • a small piece of Cross Stitch fabric

  • a blank, acid-free card form

  • craft adhesive spray, acid-free glue dots, or acid-free glue

  • Scissors

  1. Stitch a small design on the band of Cross Stitch fabric. The design used for this card is from the free Father's Day Cross Stitch pattern collection, but you may choose any design that will not exceed the dimensions of the blank card.

  2. Trim the excess fabric away from the design with sharp scissors. Do not trim too closely to the design or you may snip some of the stitches.

  3. Apply a fray blocking agent to the edge of the fabric, if desired. You may also choose to bind the edge of the fabric with ribbon.

  4. Determine the placement of the design on the card. Experiment before you actually glue the fabric to the card.

  5. Use craft adhesive spray, acid-free glue dots, double-sided tape, or acid-free glue to apply the design to the card. You may want to use a scrap of material and card stock to test your choice of glue methods. I favor craft adhesive, glue dots, or double-sided tape because the glue can seep through to the front of the fabric if too much is applied.

  6. Allow the card to dry, choose a saying, or write a personal message in the card.

  7. Mail or hand-deliver your card to the recipient.
Note: This method could also be used to create a gift tag or ornament.

Optional: Use additional card stock to "frame" the design or place it behind the design to add contrast and depth to the card. Use your imagination and see how you can embellish the card.
