When stitching with metallic threads, I was always getting splitting, and shredding, and frustrated! I discovered Thread Heaven. It's a conditioner that keeps the thread soft and pliable so it goes through the cloth easier, keeping it from shredding and splitting as much. It saves time and money, as you are using most of your thread, and not always re-threading with a new piece as often. You can get it at most any needlework shop or Hancock fabrics.
