One frustration of using a embroidery hoop is that floss catches on the edge of the fabric in the hoop or on the tension adjustment screw. To prevent this, hold the hoop in your non-stitching hand, or place the screw in the holder if you are using a stand. Bend edges of stiff fabric down.

The most common way to avoid problems with hoops and floss is to use shorter lengths of floss! Many stitching problems are caused when stitchers use a piece of floss that is too long.

If you tend to cut your floss too long, experiment until you find the right length, and use a ruler to cut your floss to a consistent length.
