Left-Hand Stitching

Most Cross Stitch tutorials and lessons are geared toward right-handed stitchers.

How do left-handed stitchers adapt right-handed directions? Some oft suggested adaptations for left-handed stitchers are to stitch from the bottom upward or to stitch with the chart and fabric upside down.

Members of the Cross Stitch Forum were asked for tips for lefties. The general consensus seems to be that stitchers should discover what works and go with it, remembering that all stitchers should keep the tops of the cross stitches going in the same direction. Although I am right-handed, I have always stitched with both hands to avoid fatigue. (The larger stitcher's callous on my right hand is evidence of which hand is used most, however.)

Cross Stitch seems to be an adaptable needle-art. Tapestry needles, hoops and frames, fabric, and patterns do not depend on left-or-right-handedness. The only specialty tool left-handed stitchers may need is a pair of left-handed fabric scissors.
