Tips from Left-handed Stitchers
Kazbels comments: (see below)I don't think I stitch any differently (other than the hand, of course!) from righties. I tried stitching upside-down, and it just didn't work for me. I don't really think there's a difference in cross-stitch....
Mslegacy advises:
Being left-handed myself, I don't think I stitch differently than other stitchers, except for which hand I use. I would definitely recommend using a lap frame or a lap stand, it makes your stitching easier overall. I stitch two handed with my left hand under the fabric, and my right hand on top. I also have a tendency to stitch large projects, and so I grid my fabric to correspond with the chart I am stitching. This way I can start anywhere. Most of my projects I have stitched were started in the middle without the gridding. I find keeping track of the stitching and the pattern is a lot easier with gridding. Now I start most of my projects in the top left corner.
Pokey – another left-handed stitcher - says:
I stitch like a "normal" person... in rows left to right with the bottom half of the X, and then right to left with the top half. I stitch like I read and write - left to right.... [D]on't drag your hand across the completed stitching.
Right-Handed Stitchers With Helpful Suggestions
Eva comments:If they want to learn they should sit directly in front of the right handed person and look at them. This is how my husband taught a left handed person to play guitar. He says it's like looking into a mirror and the left handed person picks it up easier.... [G]et a floor stand so you can work with both hands. It's easier on the shoulders, the wrists and you don't have to figure out what to do with the fabric while trying to learn to stitch.
Luv2stitch2 shared this information:
I have a friend who is a left handed stitcher and she stitches the same as those of us who are right handed.... It does not matter which direction the cross stitches are going, as long as they all go in the same direction in that entire piece. Most diagrams show one how to cross stitch, usually all using the same diagrams, but a lot of resources neglect to mention it does not matter as long as they all go in the same direction.
