Rosie's Excess Fabric Tip

By , About.com Guide

Rosie submitted this tip about what she does with excess fabric when she is stitching. She writes, "Sometimes when stitching a large project I still like to use the 8 by 12 inch snap frame. I used to go nuts trying to keep all the overflowing fabric from getting in the way and sometimes getting 'sewed' by my stitching to the back. One day I was looking in my sewing box for something else and saw an old. plastic alligator clamp for the hair that was so popular several years ago. Yes, the light bulb went off over my head and I immediately went to my stitching, gathered up all the excess fabric and clamped it to the snap frame. Problem solved and I have plenty of old clamps in various sizes to use. By the way, if there are beads in the excess fabric the light force of these clamps will not hurt them. Any creases in the material have always been light and disappeared completely when washed."
