Marilyn's Left-Handed Stitching Tip

By Connie G. Barwick, About.com

Marilyn explains her left-handed stitching methods. She writes, "I have been cross stitching since my grandmother taught me nearly 50 years ago. Although she was not left handed, I was. In order to teach me (at the tender age of 5), she started from the top left of a project and I started from the bottom right of that project. She would show me upside down and would praise my 'backwards' crosses.

I find cross stitching easier if I go bottom to top than if I go top to bottom. Also, my bottom cross stitch is '/' and my top cross stitch is '\'

This may be totally backwards from a righty, but totally correct for a lefty and makes it so much easier. No one can tell that I'm left handed and I have done several very large gifts in this manner."
