Marty's Tip On Framing Ornaments

Keep Edges from Raveling with Fray Check

By , About.com Guide

Marty explains her technique for framing Christmas ornaments. She writes, "I do the stitching. My mother does my framing. She uses a blue water soluble pen. Since I use beads there are always extra clear pieces from the frame because we do not use them for the final project.

So, Mom marks the center on the clear piece from the frame with a magic marker. This helps her to center the ornament. Once the ornament is centered, she draws a circle on the fabric using the pen.

Next, she cuts the ornament out. To keep it from fraying she uses a small amount of fray check around the edge.

Finally, she blows the fray check dry with a hair dryer. After it is dry, it is time to put the fabric in the frame. Since the edge of the fabric is under the gold ring the fray check edge is never seen.

I now use fray check on all my pieces and blow it dry. No more waiting.
