PainsRose explains how she makes a grid on her fabric. She writes:
Before beginning a piece, and especially a complicated one, I take the time to sew a 10x10 grid in my fabric with mono-filament line (such as fishing line). If the pattern I'm using does not divide the stitches into such a grid, I mark the grid on the pattern as well. This makes it so much easier to keep track of where I am.
