The basic idea of how I will quilt the border.

Why Did You Volunteer to Stitch?

I really liked the idea of learning new stitches. I love Connie's designs and thought it would be fun to have a go at the Day Complete Band Sampler.

What Supplies Did You Use?

Four different shades of DMC Blues: A light blue, a medium and a dark and also a variegated blue. Contrasting with DMC Metallic Silver.

(Sorry, I've lost track of which numbers)

14 count white aida. The aida was what I had on hand. I'd prefer to have stitched it on evenweave or linen in a smaller count but I had none to spare at the time.

What I'd Do Differently

  • I changed the lettering because I wasn't happy with the original but I'm still not happy with what I ended up with. I frogged it four times before I finally gave up and went with what it is now.
  • I left out a row in both top and bottom sections. I didn't like it doubled up.
  • I stitched a closed chevron which wasn't exactly what Connie intended but I couldn't quite figure out what it was supposed to be. Once I started the chevrons, I liked it, so I stuck with it.

What was your favorite part to stitch?

The closed chevron and the herringbone stitches. I love the effect of both.

What was your least favorite part to stitch?

The band I left out the second row of in top and bottom sections!

How will you use this project?

Going to quilt a border and have it as a wall hanging.

Connie G. Barwick, Cross-Stitch Guide, says:

The sampler turned out beautifully. You did a wonderful job stitching it with minimal instructions and adapted it to your personal taste.
