Cross Stitch ORT Container

ORT Container for Cross Stitchers - Material

Cross Stitch ORT Container

Make this handy container for your thread ends

Step One

Gather materials: sewing machine, cutting mat, rotary cutter, ruler, sewing thread and 2 pieces of contrasting materials. (Select a material that has some body to it...not anything thin or flimsy.)

Step Two

Cut 4 strips 7 1/2" x 2 1/2" and then 4 from the contrasting fabric.

Step Four

Follow the pictures and instructions for placement of fabric pieces and joining. The Stitching Room - Thread Holder Tutorial

Step Five

Sew, turn, close the opening, and complete ladder stitch where instructed.

Here's a youtube video link on how to do the ladder stitch: Ladder Stitch Video

My Project:

This is an "ORT" container....'old ratty tails' cut off your threads while cross stitching.

It is soft and collapsible for storage in your sewing box.

Materials I Used

Sewing machine, rotary cutter and cutting mat, sewing thread and sharps needle, scissors, ruler, 2 pieces of constrasting fabrics.

I used some fabric that came out of a "fat quarters " stack that I had purchased from WalMart.

The designer of the pattern posted on her blog that she would like to hear comments and see photos of your finished container.

Lessons Learned

  • I learned the "Ladder stitch". It is very easy....not difficult at all to do the ladder stitch.
  • The whole project is easy. Just follow the tutorial very carefully for placement of your contrasting materials so that it will turn out right.
