Cross Stitch God Bless America Basket of Apples

Project for Memorial Day or July 4th Celebrations

Project Name and Designer

God Bless America Basket of Apples by

Stoney Creek Collections

This was purchased through Patterns OnLine and done for a really good friend for her birthday in April 2009.

She loves apples and God and I thought it was a great

project to show-off patriotism for either Memorial Day or July 4th.

Fabric and Floss Used

14 Count Aida with DMC Thread

This pattern was very easy to do. I had a great time doing it. I worked on it for approximately 4 months. I started it in July of 2008 thinking I would have it finished by Christmas, however, several things came in between me and the finish for Christmas. So I decided it would be for her birthday in April. It did not call for, but I used Metallic Thread for the Stars. It was kind of difficult, but using the metallic thread is hard to begin with. The shininess of the metallic thread does make the stars standout. However, I don't believe the photo does it justice, you would have to see it up close and personal.

Tips and Tricks

  • I used Metallic Thread to make the stars stand out. Backstitching is what makes the basket really pop. I believe I did the border first, then the basket, then the apples. Of course, the backstitching is always done after all the cross stitching is complete.
