Choice depends on project

Good for large pieces but hard to position; tabletop stand worked best for this and kept taut better since it stayed in same position while working. Small projects seem to work better with smaller types( Q-snaps, wooden hoops,ec. I use all kinds.

Ratchet Frame

We have a couple of these frames. Roomie and I both are avid stitchers. She's got an "okay" attitude about them, but uses her wood frames more. I don't like them and only use my wood scrolls.

Not good investment

The middle of my fabric sags on the rachet frame. I tried to use it several times on different projects and end up switching to hoops or Qsnaps. I am considering giving it away. Linda

Ratchet Frame

I only use this type of frame. Mine are wooden. One you baste the fabric to the material edges provided then roll. The other has split rails. Just have to tighten every so often. I can see so much more surface area using these. It took some getting use to but dearly love them now. The hoop marks were so hard to get out of fabric when framing for display.

Rachet Frame

My tip would be to NOT purchase a rachet frame! I found it completely unsatisfactory. After repeatedly working with my fabric and the frame, it would not hold the fabric taut. I returned the rachet frame to the craft store and received a refund.
